I went to my first CODA (CoDependents Anonymous) meeting in 9 years today and as expected it was emotional but also heart-warming. It got me thinking about my higher power and universal consciousness. What does this all mean to me and how has my higher power changed over the years. Is it a spiritual guide looking out for us as individuals? Is it something that somehow connects us all and unites our energy across the whole universe?
Universal Consciousness
Since getting deeper into my yoga, meditation and mindfulness, I feel increasingly grounded and connected, not just to people but to the plants, animals and energy that’s always around us and also within us. It’s fascinating to me that each of us is linked through our energy. We are linked to a higher power and part of a universal consciousness. We can both contribute to this and experience it as something calming and magical. Seeing that connection means that we care more about the universe and how to improve it rather than simply being focused on ourselves. We find it easier to let go of our daily struggles because there’s something bigger than us to which we already belong. Something beautiful that unites us, that exists beyond pain and emotion and that is simply everything and nothing, all at once.
Have you ever felt connected to each speck of dust, each little spot of light, every spittle of the ocean and every wave of energy from those around you? Just like a wave in the ocean is separate and yet part of the ocean so are we unique and yet part of the universal energy.
I can’t do justice to one of the oldest philosophical beliefs of time. However, I feel that Universal Consciousness is something to be curious about and to learn to embrace. We spread our energy and influence each other in many subtle ways that we are still learning to understand. In the same way that when you see someone laugh, you want to laugh, or you want to cry when you feel someone’s pain. So our energy fields spread out to each other.
Why does all this matter?
1- Gives perspective:
There is something more important than us. Being connected to each other and to the higher consciousness gives us space for personal growth.Â
2- Reassurance:
Let’s not forget that we are humans and fragile in our own way. It’s comforting to know that we are part of a greater whole that lives on in the energy of the universe.
3- Gives us Purpose:
Isn’t it beautiful to be part of a greater whole? I love the idea that I can feed it positive thoughts, learnings and generally grow with it. We can help sustain our universal consciousness and learn together to benefit future generations of all beings.
4- Helps us with Compassion:
If we are part of the same, surely we want to help each other along the journey to peace and recovery?
5- and Hope:
All of us have the ability to be the best version of ourselves. By trusting in each other and using the energy we all have to fulfil our lives completely then we can truly say that we have lived. We have not squandered our time in this form being stuck in a victim loop, as many people often are.
